A 20-year-old Fenton-area man was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed Jarvis Person, 39, of St. Louis at a home in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. The Fenton man reportedly was trying to stop Person from assaulting a woman, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies got a call at about 6:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, about an alleged domestic disturbance involving Person and a 36-year-old St. Louis woman. When a deputy arrived at the home at about 6:20 p.m., Jefferson County 911 Dispatch reported a gunshot had been fired, the report said.
The deputy found Person suffering from a gunshot wound and took over performing life-savings measures from someone who was at the home. A second deputy soon arrived and also performed life-saving measures until Rock Township Ambulance personnel took over and transported Person to an area hospital, according to the report.
Person was pronounced dead at the hospital, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
The woman was evaluated at the home, and Rock Township transported her to a hospital for treatment, the report said.
The alleged shooter cooperated with investigators, who recovered a gun at the home. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was booked and questioned, according to the report.
Bissell said the alleged shooter was still in the jail this morning, but he was expected to be released tonight.
