A mother and her two children escaped a residential fire north of Hillsboro that killed four dogs. The fire happened May 30, Cedar Hill Fire Protection District Chief Mick Fischer said.
Fischer said the fire, at 6050 Shelle Estates Drive, started in a living area in the middle of the house. It appeared to be accidental, but no cause had been determined as of June 3.
He said the house was destroyed and the Red Cross was called to help the woman and her children.
Crews were dispatched at 9:10 p.m. and arrived at the scene at 9:22 p.m.. The fire was under control at 9:51 p.m. and crews left the scene at 11:43 p.m.
Four fire protection districts – Hillsboro, Eureka, High Ridge and Goldman – and the Big River Ambulance District helped with the call.
