A 19-year-old Eureka man was arrested for allegedly stealing money from the Burger King restaurant he worked at and for possessing more than 35 grams of marijuana. The teen allegedly stole $467.15 from the g restaurant, 235 W. Fifth St., Eureka Police reported.
The restaurant’s general manager called Eureka Police at about 1:45 p.m. Aug. 6 and accused the teen of stealing the money. She said he took the money between July 24-31, and she was going to fire him when he showed up for work at 2 p.m. Aug. 6, the report said.
When the teen arrived for work, he was confronted by the officers, who allegedly smelled marijuana and asked if he had any with him. The teen reportedly told the officers he had a lot of marijuana, and when they searched his backpack, the officers allegedly found three large bags of a green-leafy substance believed to be marijuana, Eureka Police reported.
The teen was taken to the Police Station, where he told the police he did not steal any money from the Burger King. He said he had worked there for about two weeks, had never been trained and was told to count the money and leave it in the cash drawer after his shift, the report said.
When he was asked if he was distributing marijuana, the teen allegedly told the officers, “It is what it looks like,” according to the report.
The teen was released with a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court of stealing. Also, depending on the results of drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance of 35 grams or more of marijuana, Lt. Michael Tapp said.
