Eureka Police arrested a 33-year-old Hollister man and a 63-year-old Villa Ridge man after they were found in a car that had been reported stolen. Officers were notified by Flock license plate-reading cameras that the car, which was found at a MotoMart gas station, entered the city, police reported.
At about 4 p.m. Nov. 19, officers were alerted that a car with license plates stolen from a 2002 Infiniti QX4 was near Six Flags. When an officer drove to the area, he saw the stolen license plate on a 2018 Chrysler 300, the report said.
The officer followed the Chrysler to the MotoMart, 5695 Fox Creek Road. The car stopped at a non-functioning gas pump, and the Hollister man, who had been driving, had opened the Chrysler’s hood, according to the report.
Other officers responded to the gas station, and the two men were arrested, the report said.
When the younger man was searched, an officer allegedly found a knife, eight capsules, two white crystal-like substance and a white powdery substance in the man’s pockets. The man allegedly said the powder was Fentanyl, the report said.
The older man was in the passenger’s seat. An officer saw two pill capsules on the passenger’s side seat, according to the report.
Officers also discovered the Chrysler had been reported stolen from Springfield, Ill., the report said.
The men were taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and released pending the application for warrants, according to the report.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the younger man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for first-degree tampering, possession of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property and driving with a revoked license, Capt. Michael Werges aid.
