A 38-year-old Eureka man was arrested outside his home on Muir Street for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after an officer followed him there. The officer followed him after Eureka Police got a call that the man had drunk too much at a home on Elm Trail Drive and become sick and then left, Eureka Police reported.
At about 9 p.m. Feb. 27, police were called to the home in the 17000 block of Elm Trail Drive for a sick case. The caller said the man had vomited blood after drinking too much and was driving impaired, the report said.
An officer spotted the man driving a Jeep and turning onto Meramec Boulevard from Elm Trail Drive, so the officer followed him. The man pulled into the driveway of his home on Muir Street and got out of the Jeep, according to the report.
The officer stopped the man at his front door to check on his medical condition because he had blood on his face. He also allegedly smelled like alcohol, the report said.
The driver reportedly refused to identify himself and kept trying to get into his home. The officer told the man he was under arrest, but the man allegedly refused to cooperate. A second officer arrived, and the two eventually overpowered the suspect and took him into custody, according to the report.
The man, who already had at least one prior DWI conviction, was transported to the Eureka Police Station. He was booked and released with summonses to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for suspicion of DWI and resisting arrest, Lt. Michael Werges said.
