William Froelich, 52, of De Soto was one of two Laclede Gas employees shot and killed while on the job Thursday morning (April 20) in St. Louis, authorities report.
At about 11:10 a.m., Froelich and another Laclede Gas employee, Alex Boschert, 27, of O’Fallon, were working in the 5900 block of Minerva in St. Louis when a 51-year-old St. Louis man reportedly walked up and started shooting at them, said Schron Y. Jackson, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
When police arrived on the scene, they found both victims and the suspect, Clinton Willis, who had turned the gun on himself, lying in the street, the report said.
Froelich, who was shot in the chest, was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, the report said.
Boschert also was shot in the chest, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the shooter fired on the two victims, he shot himself in the head, and he, too, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
The gun used in the shooting was found lying next to Willis’ body and has been recovered, the report said.
“After interviewing friends and family members and conducting a background investigation of the suspect, it appears that this incident was not racially motivated,” Jackson reported.
