Cameron Shores, 36, of De Soto is facing a felony drug charge following a short police chase last week.
Shores allegedly threw a package of “Ice,” a purer form of methamphetamine, from a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup he was driving Dec. 22 as a police officer pursued him to make a traffic stop, said De Soto Police Chief Rick Draper.
“We believe during the chase the driver tossed about a pound of ice from this vehicle,” Draper said.
The officer first saw Shores on Bogy Street, Draper said.
“The officer knew from previous encounters with the subject that he was driving on a revoked license,” Draper added.
The officer tried to get Shores to pull over, then pursued him about three blocks to the intersection of Blow and Stone streets where Shores pulled over. He was arrested without further incident, Draper said.
The drug, valued at about $5,000, was found along the route taken during the chase, and several thousand dollars were found in the pickup, Draper said.
Shores was arrested that day, and on Dec. 23, the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged him with distribution, delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance, a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison.
He was transferred from the De Soto Police station to the Jefferson County Jail where he was being held Monday on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
