When a man returned to his home in the 3900 block of Vogt Road in Byrnes Mill on Sept. 30, he saw a glow coming from inside, and when he opened the front door, he found the house full of smoke, High Ridge Fire Protection District Engineer John Barton said.

The man called 911, and crews were dispatched to the scene at 10:29 p.m. When firefighters arrived at 10:38 p.m., they found heavy smoke throughout the house and fire in the bedroom, Barton said.

He said the fire was under control by 10:57 p.m.

Barton said no one was hurt in the fire, and a dog and cat that were in the home got out unharmed.

He said the home sustained both fire and smoke damage, and the man who lives there plans to stay with a family member.

Barton said Oct. 1 that the cause of the fire was undetermined, and the state Fire Marshal’s Office and Byrnes Mill Police Department were investigating.

Firefighters were on the scene until 4:44 a.m. Oct. 1, Barton added.

He said the Cedar Hill, Eureka and Fenton fire protection districts helped with the call. In addition, North Jefferson County Ambulance District responded to the scene.
