A 37-year-old St. Louis man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he allegedly was driving 120 mph with a 2-year-old child in the car. The man was arrested about 12:25 a.m. Oct. 27 on I-55 just north of Meramec Bottom Road in south St. Louis County, Arnold Police reported.
An officer, using a radar gun, reportedly clocked the car, a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, traveling 120 mph on the interstate near Hwy. 141 in Arnold. When the officer first questioned the man, he said no one else was in the car, but another officer arrived, and they discovered a child in a booster seat in the back seat. The child was not strapped into the seat, according to the report.
The driver appeared intoxicated and reportedly failed a field sobriety test and registered .170 percent blood-alcohol content, the report said. In Missouri, .08 percent is the legal limit.
The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was released when he was sober. The child was released to a great-grandmother, and Arnold Police reported the case to Children’s Division, according to the report.
Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through Arnold Municipal Court for driving while intoxicated, careless and reckless driving, driving with a revoked license and endangering the welfare of a child, Lt. Tom Leassner said.
