The Pevely Board of Aldermen approved a total of $225,278.15 in expenditures at its June 9 meeting.

The largest of those expenditures was $132,213 for a new dump truck.

Board members voted 5-0 to buy the truck from Viking-Cives Midwest of Morley. The city did not seek bids for the truck because it is being purchased through a state bid, which means the city is buying it through a pre-existing contract the state has established with a vendor for goods or services. Rick Yount of Ward 2 and William Brooks and Travis Dittmann, both of Ward 4, were absent from the meeting.

Ron Ebmeier, the city’s Public Works supervisor, told board members that while he sought the board’s approval to order the dump truck now, the city will not receive the truck until next year and won’t pay for it until the 2026 fiscal year, which starts in January.

He said the new dump truck will replace one that is about 18 years old and is showing its age.

Ebmeier said he would attempt to sell the old dump truck for the city.

Other expenditures authorized

Also at the June 9 meeting, board members approved several other expenditures, all by 5-0 votes.

■ Board members approved a bid from Smith and Son Contracting of De Soto for $79,704, the lowest of four bids, for a street repair project on Peggy Drive.

“This is repairing concrete slabs,” City Administrator Andy Hixson said. “It’s a budgeted item.”

■ The board agreed to pay $8,076 to Busch Heating & Cooling of Arnold to raise gas piping and HVAC from the top of City Hall so the roof can be repaired. Hixson said the project did not need to be bid out because the city has an existing contract with Busch Heating & Cooling.

He said the work is being done in conjunction with a roof repair project previously approved by the board that involves repairs to and an overlay on the roof.

■ Board members also voted to pay $5,285.15 to Mid-America Electric to complete emergency electric repairs at Pevely Park.

The work includes the installation of a new meter enclosure and service mast, along with related work.

“It was not bid because they were considered emergency repairs,” Hixson said. “There were some safety hazards that had to be addressed.”

He said he expects the three projects to start “as soon as possible.”
