Anyone who wants information about the upcoming rehabilitation work to the Meramec River bridges on I-55 in the Arnold area may attend a public meeting on Tuesday, June 17. The open-house style meeting will be held from 4-6 p.m. at Arnold City Hall, 2101 Jeffco Blvd.
According to a written statement from MoDOT, the meeting will focus on the upcoming bridge rehabilitation project, which includes routine maintenance repairs, resurfacing and repairing deteriorated sections of the decks on the twin bridges over the Meramec River – the bridge on northbound I-55 and the bridge on southbound I-55. The project is a part of the overall bridge maintenance cycle to help maximize the lifespan of the two bridges.
The project is scheduled to be awarded in November, with construction beginning between December and early 2026, MoDOT reported.
A formal presentation is not scheduled. Instead, people may stop by at any time during the meeting to view project plans and traffic staging and speak with project engineers.
Access for people with disabilities is available. People with disabilities who require special services at the public meeting should call senior communications specialist Rachel Sudduth at 314-343-7731 by Friday.
Attendees will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the project by completing a comment form while at the meeting or online at modot.org/projects/interstate-55-bridge-rehabilitation-jefferson-and-st-louis-counties. The comment form will be available June 17- July 1.
The bridge project is one of the 12 Jefferson County projects included in the proposed Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) for fiscal years 2026-2030. The $17.8 million project to rehabilitate the twin bridges over the Meramec River will be covered by a combination of federal and state funds.
The work zone will extend about 2 miles between Hwy. 141 in Arnold and Meramec Bottom Road in St. Louis County.
The same bridges are listed in the STIP for a 2028 project that involves painting the bridges at an estimated cost of $9,428,000.
