The Northwest R-1 School District’s chief operating officer recently announced his resignation after four years in the position.
In a written statement, Mark Janiesch said he has enjoyed his time as chief operating officer for the Northwest district and that he is “forever grateful” for the trust and kindness the Board of Education and the Northwest community have shown him.
His last day with the district will be June 30, 2026. His salary for the 2025-26 school year is $142,445.37.
Doréan Dow, the district’s interim superintendent, said Janiesch has accepted a position with the Lindbergh School District in St. Louis County.
The Lindbergh district reported on its website that Janiesch will be its next chief financial officer.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for him, and we wish him well,” she said.
Dow said Janiesch has served the district well, noting that he has helped maintain a balanced budget that directly supports the district’s strategic plan in the areas of student achievement; staff recruitment and retention; and financial stability.
“He has helped create a competitive salary and benefits package that shows our teachers and staff that we value their hard work and dedication,” she said. “He facilitated the passage of a $28 million bond issue that allowed us to better secure our campuses, update our elementary playgrounds and build additional learning spaces.”
The district is actively searching for a new chief operating officer to start July 1, 2026. The annual starting salary range for the position is between $139,200 and $165,300.
According to the district’s job posting, the chief operating officer is responsible for leading and ensuring all financial, operations and management functions are operated legally and efficiently. The chief operating officer will work under the direction of the superintendent and will plan, organize, manage, direct and supervise the personnel, functions and activities of the business division, including budget development and monitoring, financial accounting, payroll and more.
Dow said the district is currently reviewing applications for the position.
“We hope to be able to offer a recommendation to the board of education next month,” she said.
