People who travel Hwy. 61-67 between Arnold and Pevely may comment on how they believe a large section of the roadway in Jefferson County could be improved in a Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) survey.
The department also will schedule public meetings on the subject.
In a May 14 statement MoDOT officials said the department “is looking at potential traffic and safety improvements” to Hwy. 61-67 from Hwy. 231 (Telegraph Road in Arnold) to Hwy. Z (in Pevely). As part of the project, the public is encouraged to ask questions or share feedback.
“We’re wanting the public to comment,” said Jordan Dalaviras, MoDOT area liaison for Franklin and Jefferson counties.
“We’re just encouraging the public to take the survey. There are different questions, like do you drive or bike or walk on it?”
Those interested may complete a survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/US61-67Survey by July 31.
The survey asks such questions as: “How often do you travel US-61-67?” “How comfortable do you feel with following along US-61/67?” and “What are your major concerns traveling along the corridor?”
In another section it invites those taking the survey to “share specific locations along the corridor where safety is a concern.”
The department plans to start holding public meetings in July, but no dates or places for the meetings have been scheduled.
Dalaviras said that the information gathered will be included in future MoDOT decisions on projects to improve the section of Hwy. 61-67.
“This is to start shaping all future projects,” he said. “We want the community’s input on what that project would look like.”
The information gathering will not be done quickly, he said.
“This is an essential part of a long process,” Dalaviras said. “It’s at least a year-long process.”
