Mastodon Fair

Mastodon Fair

The Mastodon Art and Science Regional Fair has two events open to the public this weekend at the Jefferson County Field House, 1000 Viking Drive, in Hillsboro. Admission is free for both events.

First, the public is invited to view student art and science fair projects from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 17.

Then, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, Mastodon Fair will hold Family Day, when projects will be on display and a variety of fun and educational activities will be held. The theme for the Family Day is the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse, and a presentation on the eclipse will be included.

Numerous demonstrations will be held. For example, the Jefferson County Robotics 4-H Club will demonstrate how to build robots from Legos, students from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla will show off solar cars, Mars rovers, robots and other items they’ve created, and the St. Louis R2 Builders Group, a local group of Star Wars- inspired “droid” builders, will show off their creations.

The following is a schedule of some of the activities to be held during Family Day.

• 9:15-10 a.m., students will present science exhibits in the Main Gym.

• 10:15-11 a.m., Endangered Wolf Center presentation in front of the Main Gym.

• 11:15 a.m. to noon, students to present art exhibits in Main Gym.

• 12:30-1 p.m., sponsor recognition ceremony and solar eclipse presentation in front of Main Gym.

Mastodon Fair will hold its Grand Awards Ceremony next month, from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 1, also at the Field House.
