Seckman and Windsor high school students will march for a good cause again.
The schools have teamed up to collect canned goods and other nonperishable food items for the annual March for Hunger along Seckman Road.
The event is scheduled for Friday, March 26. Students from the schools will gather at about 9 a.m. at Mastodon State Historic Site in Imperial and then march to Seckman High School.
Along the way, they will pick up donations placed at the entrances to subdivisions off Seckman Road, where signs will be posted and pallets will be placed.
The schools started taking donations on their campuses on March 10, and food items collected at schools and during the march will be donated to Sister Christine’s Food Pantry at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Imperial.
Last year’s march was canceled because of concerns about the spread of COVID-19.
When students gather for the march, they will be required to wear masks when they are unable to allow 6 feet of space between each other, said JP Prezzavento, Fox C-6 School District’s communication and instructional technology coordinator.
This year marks the seventh time Seckman students have participated in the collection, and the fifth year Windsor students have been part of the event.
The students will be joined on the march by representatives from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Army Recruiting Office in Festus.
