Over the past 17 years, the Leader has published dozens of stories about local residents who have served in all branches of the military. Readers have shared stories about the great sacrifice their family members and friends have made from as far back as the Civil War.
We’re asking you to do the same thing this year, and help Leader Publications offer a Salute to Veterans tribute in the Nov. 10 issue of the paper.
Veterans themselves, as well as their family members and friends, are encouraged to share stories and photos from any branch of the military, any era, wartime or peacetime.
The submissions may be about any Jefferson County or Eureka veteran, living or deceased.
Veterans who were featured in former years may be included, but please tell different stories and provide different photographs from those submitted before.
The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. The paper will publish as many photos and stories as space allows, with priority given to first-time submitters. The remaining photos and stories may appear on the paper’s website.
In order to be eligible for publication, each submission must include the following information:
■ The name, address and daytime phone number of the person submitting the entry.
■ The names of any people in the photograph and the approximate date when it was taken.
■ Include the service person’s hometown and year of birth.
■ Include the military branch and years served, plus any details about foreign or domestic posts, specialties or training.
■ Add details – funny stories, sad stories, romantic stories, heroic stories.
All submissions will be edited for length and clarity.
Photos may be submitted in either print or digital form. “Then” and “now” photos are especially welcome.
Mail photos to Leader Veterans Tribute, P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028; email to news@leaderpublications.biz; or bring to the Leader office at 503 N. Second St. in Festus. Physical photos that include a self-addressed, stamped envelope will be mailed back; others will be held for pickup.
