About 4,200 people turned out for the second annual Jimmy Smooth’s Creepin’ Show, held Saturday at the Big River VFW in Cedar Hill.
The event, which included a “rat rod” show, also raised about $25,000 for local charities, said planning committee member Vicky James, chief operating officer for Chapel Hill Mortuary.
James said both the attendance and the money raised was up from 2020, when about 3,500 people attended and $20,000 was raised for charities.
The car show featured about 300 rat rods – customized vehicles that often look rough and beat up.
The event also included performances from the Well Hungarians, Breakdown Shakedown, Jason Ashley and Cedar Hill resident Aliana Good.
“Everyone was very complimentary of the music,” James said.
An auction and pinup contest were held, and the event ended with the launching of lanterns.
“We wanted to end with honoring the victims of 9/11 and lost children,” James said.
James said in total the event made $52,000, but more than half of it will be used to cover expenses to put on the show.
She said on Monday, the planning committee was still trying to decide which charities to donate the $25,000 to, but Hoofprints on Heart, Cherish and a non-profit group that supports suicide prevention will be among the charities to benefit.
James said Savannah’s Restaurant and Bar in Cedar Hill also plans to donate some of its profits from the weekend to the Northwest R-1 School District lunch fund.
