The Jefferson County Public Works Department will hold an open house to share information about the county’s bicycling and pedestrian master plan with the public.
The open house will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at Antonia Middle School. 6798 St. Luke’s Church Road, in Barnhart
The Public Works Department is seeking community input during the design phase of the master plan.
“Jefferson County has a wonderful bicycle culture and a strong reputation for natural beauty,” Public Works Director Jason Jonas said. “The Walk Bike (Jefferson County) plan seeks to build on these assets and the input from the public to create healthier, more active communities.”
According to a written statement from the Public Works Department, the master plan will help “chart a course” linking the county’s notable community assets. The design will work to improve safety, comfort and accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists in the county.
Planning efforts for the walk and bike master plan will continue through the spring and summer with draft recommendations shared with the public in the fall. The master plan will be submitted to the Jefferson County Council for approval by February 2025, the statement said.
At the open house, representatives from the Public Works Department and a consultant team made up of the Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Inc. and SWT Design firms will present information about the bicycling and pedestrian master plan.
The county will pay the firms an estimated $250,000 to design the master plan, the statement said.
The Public Works Department plans to hold additional community engagement events to get feedback on the master plan. For more information about upcoming events, visit the bicycle and pedestrian master plan’s dedicated website, walk-bike-jefferson-county-jeffsncntybkwlk.hub.arcgis.com.
