The Jefferson County Library in early April introduced a new soundproof booth at the Windsor branch, 7479 Metropolitan Blvd., for patrons looking for a quiet place to study, work and hold meetings.
The booth was funded through a Jefferson County Library Foundation grant to support the “privacy for patrons” initiative at the library. The booth is first-come, first-serve and is available during normal library hours.
Public libraries such as the Windsor branch are accessible to the public whether they are a cardholder or if they live in the library’s district. However, the library said in an April 21 statement that private spaces, like the soundproof booth, can be limited due to high demand.
Patti Redel, Jefferson County Library Foundation president, said the community is looking for safe quiet spaces to work or study.
“This booth is the first step to creating spaces like this for community members to use in the library,” she said. “So far, people have used it to take private calls, focus on their studies and even to meet with their community health worker. In essence, the name of this project ‘Dignity in Privacy,’ says it all. The foundation is honored to provide a safe, private space for that to occur.”
The booth has room for four people with an internal fan for white noise, an adjustable light and heavy-duty walls.
