State and federal elected officials representing Jefferson County will speak at the Jefferson County Growth Association’s Legislative Forum on Thursday, June 4.

Those looking to meet with the elected officials may reserve their spot on the association’s website, jcgamo.org.

The forum will begin at 7 a.m., with breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m., at the Compass Health Network Festus-Truman Center, 1275 N. Truman Blvd., in Festus.

It costs $35 for JCGA members and $45 for non-members.

The forum has traditionally been held in Jefferson College’s Student Center Building, but JCGA Executive Director Sharon Floyd said the college is renovating the building.

“(The Festus-Truman Center) can hold up to 135 people,” she said. “It’s wonderful, modern and new. It’s really convenient to just park and walk right in for most people.”

Floyd said 11 state and federal representatives have been invited to speak at the forum.

She said there are rumors that the Missouri Legislature, which adjourned May 15, may be called into a special session. If so, the forum will be rescheduled.

State Rep. Tricia Byrnes of Wentzville said on May 18 that she would like Gov. Mike Kehoe to call a special session to suspend the state’s 29.5-cent-per-gallon gas tax amid high fuel prices.

As of Tuesday, Kehoe had yet to call for the special session.
