Two Jefferson College buildings will soon get new roofs.

The college’s Board of Trustees voted 4-0 Feb. 8 to pay Meinershagen Roofing in Farmington $302,412 to install new roofs on the Fine Arts and Technology buildings, both on the Hillsboro campus. Board members Steve Meinberg and Susan Tuggle were absent from the meeting.

Meinershagen Roofing submitted the lowest of eight bids for the project, according to board documents.

John Linhorst, who was named Jefferson College’s vice president of finance and administration at the same meeting, said Meinershagen has done work for the college before.

“They’ve done good work for us in the past,” he said.

Linhorst said the last time the Fine Arts building got a new roof was 29 years ago, while the Technology Center roof is 15 years old.

Linhorst said the projects will be scheduled around classes.

“We were deliberate to put this out for bid to take advantage of the contractor scheduling for the spring and summer,” he said. “We were also deliberate in scheduling so as to not interfere with the students’ class schedules.

“The Fine Arts project is scheduled for spring break (the week of March 18). That project should be done in a week. The Technology Center is a larger project. It’s scheduled to start after commencement (which is set for May 18). I would expect that (Technology building roofing project) to take three weeks.”
