All 46 of Jefferson College’s administrators and directors received pay raises for this school year, which began July 1 and ends June 30, 2026. All of them, except Jefferson College President Dena McCaffrey, received a 2 percent step raise and 3 percent cost-of-living raise, just like the college’s faculty.
McCaffrey’s annual salary is $230,100 this school year, up from $210,120, a larger raise than what the other administrators received. However, her raise was affected by a change in how a portion of her salary is categorized, said John Linhorst, vice president of finance and operations.
“The variance in compensation is due to an allowance for vehicle travel related to the president role, which has historically been included as a separate component of the president’s compensation package,” he said. “Beginning in fiscal year 2026 and moving forward, this allowance has been consolidated into the president’s base salary.”
The college’s other employees – those who are not faculty members, administrators or directors – received cost-of-living raises ranging from .33 percent to 3.74 percent, plus a 2 percent step increase.
All the pay raises were approved as part of the college’s budget, which the Board of Trustees adopted on June 12. The 2025 fall semester classes began Monday.
Altogether, the pay raises will cost the college about $550,000, McCaffrey said, adding that the college’s cost for the administrators and directors staff raises, promotions and upgrades comes to $253,339.
“These figures include faculty promotions, position reclassifications and upgrades,” McCaffrey said.
She said it is essential for the college to maintain competitive salaries for administrative and director salaries in higher education to keep them in their positions and to fill open positions.
“Jefferson College is fortunate to have a strong team of professionals supporting the work we do to fulfill our mission,” she said. “To remain competitive, the college regularly compares our salaries and benefits to others in the region. We also work hard to create an environment that is mission-centered and one that individuals want to be a part of. I appreciate the service they provide to our students, the community and each other.”
