The Hillsboro R-3 School District has developed a timeline to find its next superintendent.

On Jan. 22, the Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a proposal from the Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA) that outlines the plan to find a successor for current Superintendent Jon Isaacson.

Isaacson’s retirement, effective June 30, 2027, was approved unanimously by the Board of Education during a closed session meeting on Nov. 20.

Isaacson’s annual salary for the 2025-2026 school year is $220,028.

The MSBA plan will cost the district $15,400, with the district covering candidates’ travel costs, board officials said.

According to the MSBA plan, efforts to find the next district superintendent will tentatively begin in August, with an estimated application window from Aug. 4 to Sept. 28.

Throughout October, semi-finalists will be chosen and screening interviews will be held.

The week of Oct. 20, final interviews will be held and hiring approved.

Once that individual is hired, officials said the district will enter a transition period beginning Nov. 1 through June 30, 2027, where the superintendent-designate will collaborate with Isaacson.

“This transition phase may include participation in leadership meetings, planning sessions, board workshops, community introductions and strategic planning discussions to ensure a seamless handoff of responsibilities and maintain district momentum,” they said.

The new superintendent will officially start on July 1, 2027.
