Fox High School will celebrate 20 years of Warrior Idol, an American Idol-inspired singing competition, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Rickman Auditorium, 747 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold. Admission to the event is $5, but Fox C-6 School District staff members may attend for free.
Proceeds from the event help fund Fox High’s choir department.
This year’s competition will not only crown a Warrior Idol, who will be selected by a panel of judges following multiple rounds of competition, but also past winners are scheduled to perform. In addition, 2020 Fox High graduates James Woolston and Emmitt Rodgers will host the competition.
Former Fox High choir director Sherry Rice and Fox High graduates Josh Johnson and Mike Alexander will serve as judges. Rice was the choir director at Fox High for the first decade of the event before retiring in 2023, concluding her career at Seckman High School.
The 2007 Warrior Idol winner, Janee Johnson, will be honored during the event.
Johnson, 33, died Dec. 29, 2022. She graduated from Fox High in 2007 and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Truman State University in Kirksville in 2011 and earned her juris doctor degree at Boston School of Law. She was a director of development of opportunities for Women at Family Forward and an executive director of Missouri Health Care For All.
