Fox C-6 School District Superintendent Paul Fregeau will be paid $23,375.85 more next school year, raising his salary to $257,134.35.
His salary is $233,758.50 this school year.
Board of Education members voted unanimously during a closed session on Feb. 20 to increase Fregeau’s salary for the 2025-2026 school year and extend his contract through the 2027-2028 school year.
“Over the last four years that Dr. Fregeau has been the superintendent of the Fox C-6 School District, the Board of Education has admittedly been conservative with his compensation,” board members said in a written statement. “If you take the newest contract into account, it averages out to a 4 percent raise each year. As the board worked through the process of Dr. Fregeau’s 2025-2026 contract, we reviewed comparable districts, just as we do for all employees, and we feel this contract places him in a competitive range.”
Fregeau began working for the district July 1, 2021. When he was hired, Fregeau received a three-year contract and was paid $225,500 the first year. He received a one-year contract extension and his salary was raised to $229,175 in March 2022. His contract was extended by a year in February 2023, but his salary did not increase that year.
In February 2024, he received another one-year extension and his salary was increased to its current level of $233,758.50.
“I’m very proud and humbled to serve the staff, students and community of Fox C-6,” Fregeau said after receiving his new contract.
Fregeau’s new deal also says the superintendent’s salary for the 2026-2027 school year shall be increased by not less than 2 percent of his 2025-2026 school year salary.
The contract also states Fregeau’s salary for the 2027-2028 school year shall not increase by more than 5 percent of his 2026-2027 salary.
“We the Fox C-6 Board of Education fully support Dr. Fregeau’s contract for the 2025-2026 school year,” the board said. “Over the past four years, Dr. Fregeau has proven himself to be dedicated not only to this school district, but to the community as a whole.
“There is no question he has both met and exceeded his goals for the current school year. Throughout his tenure with Fox C-6, Dr. Fregeau has established himself as a visible pillar at school events almost every night of the week.”
Fregeau said he is proud of numerous district accomplishments over the past four years, noting that many people have worked together to make those improvements.
“I believe the work we’ve done to develop a database to assist with improving student learning is a big step in the right direction,” he said. “Furthermore, our work to create a viable curriculum to support our teachers in their work is going to pay huge dividends down the road. In addition, we have a plan to identify resources to support that work.
“We have done a good job of creating a database to manage our facility needs; this will allow us to better communicate with our public the issues we have to address moving forward. Currently, our need is $150 million and we have the documentation to support our conversation with our patrons.”
Fregeau said he and district officials will continue to work on forming stronger bonds with district staff and residents.
He also said Fox C-6 will continue to work on improving student academic performance and on finding ways to improve district facilities.
“We need to continue to build trust with our internal and external stakeholders to allow for initiatives to be supported,” Fregeau said. “We need to continue to make gains in academic achievement. Improvement in assessment scores, graduation rates, cohort growth, etc. … are all areas we can continue to strive for improvement. Finally, we still have a plethora of facility needs that are not going away.”
