The Firecracker Festival Car Show originally scheduled for Saturday, June 29 at Larry G. Crites Memorial Park has been shifted to the parking lot of Festus Elementary School, 1500 Midmeadow Lane, Festus.
Organizers said other details of the car show remain the same: runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; $20 registration fee; plaques to be awarded in a variety of categories and a trophy for Best in Show; raffle baskets and a 50-50 drawing; free for visitors to see the show. The Festus R-6 School Foundation sponsors the car show.
However, no alcohol is allowed on any Festus R-6 School District campus, school district officials announced.
The car show is among the activities of the Twin City Firecracker Festival set for June 28-29 at Crites Park along Old Hwy. A.
Festus Recreation and Tourism Director Barb Lowry said that heavy rains Tuesday and Wednesday forced the relocation of carnival rides from the gazebo area on the north side of Old Hwy. A in the park to the parking lot by the ballfields on the south side of Old Hwy. A. The car show was to be held there until the necessity of shifting the carnival rides, she said.
The Firecracker Festival has had car shows in past years, but there has been a hiatus of several years since the last time a car show took place in conjunction with the festival, she said.
