The Festus City Council on June 8 approved Jokerst Paving & Contracting of Festus to handle its 2026 street improvements project for its low bid of $1,361,052.97.
The work includes concrete pad replacement and asphalt overlay.
Council members voted 7-0 to approve Jokerst, the low bidder of three companies that submitted complete bids, for the project. A fourth company only submitted a bid for concrete work.
Michael Christopher, the public works director also serving as interim city administrator, said, “We would expect (Jokerst) to start in July.”
“This year’s street improvements project will include a mill and overlay of listed streets, concrete panel replacement on selected street sections and asphalt overlay of the remaining gravel section of the parking lot of Turtle Cove (in Larry G. Crites Memorial Park),” Christopher said.
Sections of roadways to have asphalt overlays are: Orchard Street, Rosemary Lane, Hemlock Lane, Westwood Drive, Spruce Drive, Redwood Drive, Edgewood Lane, Edgewood Court, Cypress Drive, Chestnut Street, North Mill Drive, Cromwell Road and the Crites Park parking lot.
Sections of roadways to have concrete panel replacements are: Belmont Court, Deer Crossing, Meadow Chase, Gray Hawk, Jackson Circle, Orchard Lane and Ashford Place.
The bid was broken into $346,299.02 for the concrete panel replacement work and $1,014,753.95 for asphalt overlay.
