Festus city officials have agreed to spend an extra $146,314.60 on this year’s street projects, allowing repairs to North Creek Drive.
The Festus City Council previously awarded a $510,897.10 contract to Jokers Paving & Contracting in Festus to complete asphalt overlay projects around the city, so the $146,314.60 change order will bring Jokerst’s total to $657,211.70.
The council voted 6-0 July 22 to approve the change order for Jokerst Paving & Contracting in Festus to replace pavement on North Creek Drive from East Gannon Drive to the entrance of 638 N. Creek Drive (at Club Car Wash).
“Parts of it are starting to crumble,” said Michael Christopher, the Festus public works director. “At the rate it’s going now, it will only get worse.”
The North Creek Drive project covers about “half a block,” he said.
“It covers about 238 cubic yards,” he added.
Christopher said he did not know when Jokerst would begin the North Creek Drive work.
“They wouldn’t give me a date because they’re pretty packed on their schedule,” he said. “I hope they do it in the next three or four weeks.”
The previously approved asphalt overlay projects included Pounds Road, Gamel Cemetery Road and Shapiro Drive, all of which, along with North Creek Drive, are south of Hwy. A.
The city budgeted $725,000 for the annual asphalt overlay project, so the overall project remains under budget, Christopher noted.
