The Festus City Council on May 13 approved the preliminary plat for a 29-unit single-family housing development submitted by Tinnin Homes & Construction along North Truman Boulevard (Hwy. 61-67).

The Festus City Council has approved the primary plat for a development to include 29 single-family-homes on the northern end of town.

Council members voted 5-0 May 13 to approve the primary plat for the developer, Tinnin Homes & Construction Inc. Ward 4 Councilman Jim Tinnin, owner of the company, abstained from the vote, and councilmen Jim Collier of Ward 1 and Brian Wehner of Ward 2 were absent from the meeting.

The homes are to be built on a 7.45-acre tract along Truman Boulevard (Hwy. 61-67) north of Brandan Wallace Way and the Sunridge Meadows senior housing complex. The property is vacant and zoned B-2 (commercial retail) with a PUD (planned unit development) overlay, city staff reported.

At one time, the land was considered for retail development.

Tinnin said he hopes his company can begin work on the development soon, but he did not have a concrete target date.

“I’m hoping to start, maybe, this summer,” he said.

Tinnin said he estimates the houses, which will average 1,350-square feet, will be priced starting in the upper $200,000s.

“I know there’s a need for (more housing),” he added.

Also at the May 13 meeting, the board approved moving its second meeting of the month, which would have been on Memorial Day, to the day after, on Tuesday, May 28.
