Voters in part of Public Water Supply District No. 7, which serves the Hillsboro area, will choose a member of the district’s Board of Directors in the April 2 election.
In Subdistrict 2, Sharon Reed is seeking her fifth term on the board but faces a challenge by Melvin Cauley.
Jennifer Deckard is running unopposed for a second three-year term in Subdistrict 3.
Reed did not return a Leader candidate questionnaire.
Board members are unpaid.
Melvin Cauley
CAULEY, 65, lives in Hillsboro. He and his wife, Debbie, have four children and a grandson. He is a retired union sprinkler fitter. Her worked for 20 years for Railroad Car Repair Shop and was a general construction contractor and real estate agent. A 1976 graduate of Fox High School, he attended the Basic Institute of Technology trade school.
What experience do you have (elected office, civic organizations, volunteer work, etc.) that might serve you well in this position?
Cauley: I have served on the board of the Herculaneum Amvets and have been a member of the Meramec Arnold Elks for 35 years,
What are the biggest problems facing the district and how would you address them?
Cauley: I don’t really know of any big problems. I would like to bring fresh ideas to the table.
Why should voters elect you to this position? List your goals, if elected.
Cauley: I am familiar with infrastructure. I have installed waterlines and fire hydrants. I have good organizational skills.
