2025 scotsdale board election

Three candidates are seeking two Scotsdale Board of Trustees seats up for an election on April 8. The candidates are Melinda Holahan, Shawna Kadlec and Justin Denochick. The seats are for two-year terms. The positions are unpaid.

Holahan and Denochick did not answer Leader surveys.

Kadlec of Scotsdale is semi-retired. She is a part-time tailor and housekeeper. She attended East Central College. She is married to Albert Ponciroli and has one son. She would not provide her age.

What experience do you have (elected office, civic organizations, volunteer work, etc.) that might serve you well in this position?

Kadlec: I helped start up a 501(c3) called Save Illinois History. I sat on the board and was integral in raising money and helping our southern Illinois French forts and historic sites. We put on the Fort Kaskaskia bluegrass festival, the Brew Festival at Fort de Chartres and a VIP dinner. I also previously served on the Scotsdale board.

What are the biggest problems facing the city and how would you address them?

Kadlec: Transparency and upholding our town’s codes are of utmost importance. Board members not supporting the residents when they have issues is also a problem. We have flooding and outdated septic tanks impacting a lot of the homes. By not addressing the code violations, it brings our property values down. We need modern bookkeeping and accounting software, too.

Why should voters elect you to this position?

Kadlec: I will bring transparency and modern accounting practices to the office of Scottsdale treasurer.

List your goals, if elected.

Kadlec: I will ensure every resident can see a full treasurer report, by posting the report on Google Docs. I also will move our town into the 21st century with modern accounting practices; assist our board in identifying problems and reaching equitable solutions; and bring each resident into the “know” about town codes.
