Early filings for the Aug. 6 primary election drew many Republican candidates but no Democratic ones for open seats in Jefferson County.
Some Democratic candidates have filed for statewide races since the filing period opened Feb. 27, but Republican candidates far outpaced Democrats for those seats as well.
Filings will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 26.
Candidates in the primary will vie for their political party’s nomination in whatever office they’re seeking. Then winners from each party’s primary elections will face off in the Nov. 5 general election.
Races for county committeeman and committeewoman seats, on the other hand, are chosen for each party, so the Aug. 6 election will decide the winner of those races.
Candidates for county offices file at the Jefferson County Administration Center, 729 Maple St., in Hillsboro, while candidates for state offices file in Jefferson City.
Below is a list of candidates who had filed as of Tuesday, at Leader deadline. Incumbents – those who are seeking re-election to the office they filed for – are marked with an (I).
