An assistant Senn-Thomas Middle School principal will be promoted to principal for the next school year.
The Dunklin R-5 Board of Education voted unanimously Nov. 18 to promote Kyle Borror to principal of the middle school. He will replace Tracy Lewis, who will retire at the end of this school year.
Dunklin Superintendent Clint Freeman said 10 people applied for the position. However, he said the search for the assistant principal position will begin in the coming weeks after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Borror, 38, has worked in the district for 13 years, starting out as a math teacher before serving as assistant principal for the past four years. He also previously coached girls basketball and was the head track coach at Senn-Thomas.
“(Borror) already understands the staff, students and the families. (He) has established relationships,” Freeman said. “All of those components are part of the key (in) what you’re looking for when you (are finding) the next building leader.”
Prior to Borror’s assistant principal position, he held a few other positions in the district. During his time as a student teacher, he taught at Grandview R-2 as well as Dunklin. After student teaching, Borror briefly filled in for a few positions at Dunklin, one for a teacher on medical leave and another for an in-school suspension position. Following this, he taught seventh and eighth grade at Good Sheppard Catholic School for one year before returning to the Dunklin district.
“I’ve always felt appreciated and valued (at Dunklin),” Borror said. “I like this community, they’ve always been very accepting and appreciative. (It’s) just a nice place to be.”
Borror’s salary will be $90,000 as the middle school principal. His current salary is $74,642.72. Lewis currently makes $127,002.40.
Borror has a bachelor’s degree in middle school curriculum from Missouri Baptist University and a master’s degree in K-12 education administration from Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO). He will also be pursuing a specialist degree from SEMO in January.
“I’m excited for this next stage of my life, continuing to grow as a leader and continuing to grow this school,” Borror said. “We’re going to continue working with the staff as we build and strengthen our curriculum and doing what’s best for (the) kids.”
Borror’s wife, Lisa, also works in the district and is a physical education teacher at Herculaneum High School. They currently live in St. Louis and have two children, Connor and Isabelle.
