COVID testing

With the increase and demand for COVID-19 testing on the rise, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services will open a testing site in Hillsboro.

The drive-thru testing site will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and then during the same hours every Wednesday through Feb. 23. The testing center will be at the Hillsboro Community Civic Center, 10349 Business 21.

Jefferson County Health Department public communications officer Brianne Zwiener said the PCR tests will be free, and no appointments will be required.

She said results will be available for people within 72 hours of being tested.

“We are continuing to see an increase in our cases, and we have also seen a demand in testing,” she said. “Our urgent cares and the hospital (Mercy Jefferson in Crystal City) saw a high testing demand, and a community testing site will take some of that burden off healthcare providers in the county.”

Zwiener said the testing site is expected to be open through the end of February, unless demand wanes.

As of today (Jan. 25), a total of 48,486 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Jefferson County since the start of the pandemic. The county also has seen a total of 417 COVID-19-related deaths.
