About 75 people attended a July 30 ceremony at the Crystal City Public Library honoring the retirement of longtime library worker Marilyn Parr. A sign reading “Marilyn’s Garden” was unveiled, dedicating the flower garden at the front of the library building in her name.

Parr, 83, was a regular library patron before going to work there in 1982. She typed cards for the catalog on a manual Royal typewriter and helped patrons do research in encyclopedias before helping the library usher in the digital age.

She kept up with technology over the years, and plans to spend time in her retirement listening to old radio shows on a 1938 radio she has hooked to her computer and equipped with a Bluetooth speaker.
