More than 38 miles of county roads will be either chip sealed or receive an ultrathin asphalt overlay in the coming weeks.
This week, crews began preparing portions of Old Lemay Ferry Road and Little Brennan Road for the asphalt overlay by sealing in cracks. According to an Aug. 24 statement from the Jefferson County Public Works Department, milling operations on these roads will begin the week of Sept. 14 with paving operations to follow.
Motorists should expect flagging operations between Old Hwy. M and Kneff Road, and between Frisco Hill Road and Seckman Road, where the roadwork will be completed on Old Lemay Ferry Road. Once Old Lemay Ferry and Little Brennan are sealed, rumble strips and striping will be added to the roads.
N.B West Contracting in Pacific was the lower of two bidders and will complete the work on both roads, totaling approximately 3.6 miles of ultrathin asphalt overlay. The company will be paid $597,768.75, using the county’s revenue from a countywide half-cent sales tax dedicated to road and bridge repair.
Missouri Petroleum in St. Louis will chip seal 34.8 miles of county roads beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8. The company was the lowest of two bidders for $1,274,523.72. The county will use revenue from the half-cent sales tax to pay for the work.
Roads receiving a chip seal treatment are: Black Hawk Lane in Dittmer, Joe Buck Road in Dittmer, Jones Creek Road in Dittmer, Salamone Road in Cedar Hill, Ashwell Lane in Cedar Hill, Burgan Grove Road in House Springs, Williams Creek Road in High Ridge, Heather Lane in High Ridge, Hunning Road in High Ridge, West Outer 21 near Arnold, East Outer 21 near Arnold, Gary Road in Arnold, White Street in Imperial, Hensley Lane in Festus, Goldman East Road in Hillsboro, Huber Street in Festus, Stroup Road in Festus, Buckeye School Road in Festus, Castle Ranch Road in De Soto, Whitehead Road in Hillsboro, Hillcrest Drive in De Soto, Berry Dairy Road in De Soto, Flucom Meadows in De Soto, Summit Drive in De Soto and Doss Hollow Road in Festus.
The roads will be swept a couple of days after placing chip seal, and most will then be striped, Public Works stated. Flaggers will be used during operations.
Following the roadwork, a few county roads will be striped for the first time.
Goldman East, Castle Ranch, Stroup and Whitehead roads will receive both yellow centerline and white edge line striping.
Burgan Grove, Buckeye School and Doss Hollow roads will receive white edge line striping only.
