Clarke Street soon will be repaved.
The De Soto City Council voted May 20 to award a $645,174.40 contract to Jokerst Paving and Contracting of Festus for the Clarke Street asphalt overlay project.
Jokerst submitted the lowest of four bids for the project.
City Manager Todd Melkus said the city’s engineering firm, Cochran Engineering, and MoDOT reviewed the bids to make sure the bids met all the requirements.
The project involves the entire length of Clarke Street from Hwy. 21 to Main Street.
Melkus said the city received an 80/20 grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) through the East -West Gateway Council of Governments, which will cover $516,139.52 of the cost.
“The city will be responsible for $129,034.88,” he said.
Melkus said May 28 that the city has submitted its request for notice to proceed to MoDOT.
Jokerst will have 90 calendar days from the date that notice is approved to complete the project, Melkus said.
He said he didn’t know if the project would require any road closures.
“There may be some closures at the 21 intersections because they are going to be pouring some concrete there, but that should be the only closure on the project,” Melkus said. “We haven’t had our pre-construction meeting yet, so those details haven’t been finalized yet.”
