Arnold will pay more than $1.7 million for repair projects for 40 streets this year.
City Council members voted unanimously on March 5 to approve two different contracts with Spencer Contracting of Arnold for the annual street repairs.
The city will pay Spencer $1,022,566.90 to do concrete repairs on 18 streets and $714,730.89 for asphalt overlay and repair projects on 22 other streets. The total cost of the two projects is $1,737,297.79.
James Pogorzelski, interim Public Works director, told the council Spencer was the only company to submit a bid for the concrete works, and Spencer submitted the lowest of three bids for the asphalt projects.
“(Spencer) has done a lot of work for us in the past,” he said. “They do good, quality work.”
Pogorzelski said Spencer may start the street repair work as early as April, and the company should complete all of the street projects by the end of October.
“We try to maintain roads as best we can,” he said. “You almost have to hit that happy medium where you get to a point where you kind of let it go a little to do a full replacement, instead of spending a nickel and dime here on repairs.”
The streets scheduled for concrete repairs are: Rosedale Drive, Rosedale Court, Strawberry Ridge Drive, Sable Lane, Tribute Drive, Riverbluff Drive, Bluffview Heights, Lake Pointe Circle, Riverbend Court, Lake Pointe Court, Linderhoff Drive, Swan Circle South, Swan Circle North, Cascade Court, Cascade Drive, Rockwood Forrest Drive, Rockwood Drive and Boca Raton Drive.
The streets scheduled to have complete asphalt overlays and repairs are: Grant, Fawn, Deer Run Court, Maxville Lane, Terrace, David Drive, Don Ron Drive, Harlene Drive, Trails End Drive, Tommy Drive, Timothy Drive, Tony Drive, Wayne Drive, Sherry Drive, Betty Drive, Clara Drive, Laverne Drive and Mary Drive. The asphalt overlay on Timothy Drive will only be done between Wayne and Tommy drives, according to city documents.
He said none of the streets are expected to be completely closed during the repair projects, but sections or lanes may be closed temporarily while work is being done.
