A 200-foot portion of Catlin Drive from south of Catlin Crossing to Marriott Lane in Barnhart will be closed June 9-16 to allow Jefferson County Public Works Department crews to complete bridge repairs.
Residents in the Parkton subdivision beyond the bridge will need to take Marriott Lane to Metropolitan Boulevard to Hwy. M to avoid the closure, according to a written statement from the Public Works Department.
Notice boards will be placed on Catlin Drive near Marriott Lane and Catlin Crossing on June 2 to let motorists know about the upcoming closure, the report said.
Public Works Director Jason Jonas said approximately 770 homes are located beyond the bridge.
He said the bridge is 47 years old and the bridge deck is showing normal wear and tear.
“The bridge deck is worn and has several major potholes,” he said. “Some of them are within both travel lanes. This makes it hard to use cones and flagger control to make the needed repairs one lane at a time.”
Public Works crews will repair the 145-foot-long, 26-foot-wide solid slab bridge for an estimated cost of $8,000 in materials. The repair costs will be covered by part of the county’s share of a 1/2-cent sales tax for roads and bridges, the department reported.
The Missouri Department of Transportation recently gave the bridge a rating of fair or satisfactory. It can hold 25 tons, according to the report.
