The Byrnes Mill Police Department and three local churches are seeking donations of school supplies to benefit Northwest R-1 School District students and families in need.
Byrnes Mill Police Chief Frank T. Selvaggio said Spring Hills Presbyterian and the Point of Refuge churches, both in Brynes Mill, and Spirit Word in House Springs are also helping with the school supply drive, he said.
Some of the items needed include No. 2 pencils, large boxes of tissues and dry erase markers.
Selvaggio said members of the public also may donate money, which will be used to provide school lunches for children in need.
Selvaggio said supplies and checks will be accepted through Aug. 17 and may be dropped off at the Byrnes Mill Police Department, 141 Osage Executive Circle, or Spring Hills Presbyterian, 6247 Upper Byrnes Mill Road.
Checks should be made out to Spring Hills Church, with “School Supply Drive” in the memo section and may be dropped off at the Byrnes Mill Police Department and Spring Hills Presbyterian or mailed to the church, he said.
Selvaggio said this is the fourth year the police department has held the drive.
“School can be stressful enough without having the supplies that a child needs to be successful. In many ways, I think that we are also helping the families of these children as providing supplies puts less of a burden on a family budget,” he said. “I also think that doing this for the community creates a stronger bond between the police department, the area churches and our community.”
