More than 1,000 people had the living daylights scared out of them this past weekend at the “Boo at the Barn” event in Hillsboro.
The event, which was co-sponsored by the Greater Hillsboro Area Chamber of Commerce and the Hillsboro R-3 School District, was held on Oct. 17 at Bridle Ridge Acres Farm, 200 Bridle Ridge Lane in Hillsboro.
Mandy Alley, marketing coordinator for the chamber, said this year’s event had its biggest attendance ever.
“We had people come from all over, St. Clair, Farmington, St. Louis, Arnold,” she said.
Alley attributed the large crowds to the event’s growing popularity and its family-friendly appeal.
Festivities included a trunk or treat, a haunted hayloft, free food, pumpkin painting, a costume contest, live animals and a haunted trail.
Twenty vehicles participated in the trunk or treat, and no one ran out of candy even with large crowds, Alley said. She also said the haunted hayloft expanded in size this year and was a big hit for kids and families.
