A bear has been making some house calls in Fenton.
The Missouri Department of Conservation received numerous reports Monday night (May 3) and this morning (May 4) about a bear in people’s yards, said Dan Zarlenga, the agency’s St. Louis regional media specialist, said.
Zarlenga said he didn’t know if people have been seeing the same bear or multiple bears. He also said he didn’t know where in Fenton the bear has been spotted.
“There is definitely at least one roaming around,” Zarlenga said. “We are aware of the situation and looking into it.”
Facebook posts with pictures of a bear indicate the animal has been spotted around Romaine Creek Road and Hwy. 141 in unincorporated Fenton.
Zarlenga said residents should not feed the bear. He also recommended residents do not leave food in their yards, including dog food.
He advises people to make sure barbecue grills are kept clean and trash is not easily accessible. He also said people may consider taking birdfeeders down.
“The best thing to do is not give the bear a reason to come into a yard,” Zarlenga said.
