Indoor pool to open near end of month; Arnold closes outdoor pool at recreation center

The Arnold Recreation Center indoor pool is expected to open near the end of November.

The Arnold Recreation Center indoor pool is expected to open near the end of November.

The Arnold Recreation Center will not have an open pool until near the end of the month.

The city closed the outdoor pool on Oct. 30 at the rec center, 1695 Missouri State Road, and announced the indoor pool will not open until near the end of November.

Arnold closed the indoor pool on Aug. 31 for a restoration project that includes replastering the pool’s surface and replacing the play structure. The city also had to replace three damaged sand filters, which extended the indoor pool’s closure.

On Monday, the Parks and Recreation Department announced that the indoor pool was filled with water on Nov. 1. The parks and rec department said the new plaster will need to be underwater for a 25-day curing period to ensure it properly sets before the indoor pool may reopen.

“We kept the outdoor pool open as long as we could,” Parks and Recreation Department Director Dave Crutchley said. “Winterization also comes into it. We have to drain it, and it has to get winterized. We didn’t want to not have a body of water for people to us, but it came time that we had to do that.”

Arnold paid Daikin TMi $349,546 to replace the indoor pool surface’s plaster and install a new play structure. The city also paid Daikin TMi, which managed the pool renovation project, $218,011 to have the filters replaced.

HMI Aquatics, which installed the new play place, installed the new filters. HMI submitted the lowest bid of $181,156 to replace the filters, and the replacement cost includes paying HMI to install the filters and for Daikin TMi to oversee the installation project.
