Gregory and Debra Scott of Arnold recently kayaked through the flooded Arnold City Park on Bradley Beach Road
On June 21, after the Meramec River had flooded the park, the two walked a short distance from their home on Mabel Drive, which is off Starling Airport Road just west of the park, and then put in their kayaks and floated around an area where they usually walk their dog or ride their bikes, Gregory said.
“We are usually down there a few times a week, but never kayaking,” he said.
Scott said the two sometimes go to the boat ramp at Arnold City Park to put their kayaks in the river, but this was the first time they were able to put them in just steps from their house and float in the actual park.
He said they floated over the top of Bradley Beach and Hollywood Beach roads.
“The water was so high up, it put us in the canopy of the trees,” Scott said.
He said the two have lived on Mabel for 26 years and this was the worst flooding they’ve seen, except for in 1993.
The park was still flooded on Wednesday (July 1), Scott said.
