Voters to decide several races in April election

Vote button 2022

The period for candidates to file to run for offices in the April 8 election ended last week, resulting in numerous races for Jefferson County voters to decide.

The cities of Arnold, Hillsboro and Pevely will have mayoral races.

Both the cities of Arnold and Festus will have races for city council seats in all four wards.

In addition, De Soto has a contested race for a seat on its City Council, and in both Herculaneum and Hillsboro, there will be a race for the Ward 1 seat on each of those boards. In Kimmswick, voters will have to decide a race for the Ward 2 Board of Aldermen seat.

The Crystal City, De Soto, Festus R-6, Fox C-6, Hillsboro R-3, Northwest R-1 and Sunrise R-9 school districts will see races for seats on their boards of education.

At the Rock Township Ambulance District, three candidates are vying for two board seats.

In addition, the Jefferson College Board of Trustees has four candidates seeking three seats up for election – two seats for six-year terms and one seat for four years left of an unexpired term. Voters will choose three candidates to fill these seats, with the top two vote-getters winning the six-year terms and the person finishing third winning the four-year term.

The Jefferson County Health Department and the Jefferson County 911 Dispatch agency have no board seats up for election in April.

Not all fire districts have seats up for election on the ballot each year, and in 2025 there will be no elections for the Antonia, Goldman, Rock Community, Dunklin and Jefferson R-7 fire protection districts.

The candidate filing period ran from Dec. 10 through Dec. 31.

The last day for governmental entities to place tax increase requests, bond issues and other measures on the ballot is Jan. 28.

The last day to register to vote in the election is March 12.

The following is a list of candidates who have filed. Incumbents – those who were elected to their seats – are denoted with an (I).

Attempts were made to reach every city, school district, ambulance and fire district and other governmental entities in the Leader readership area for a list of candidates who have filed to run in April. Not every entity responded.
