A new water ride, Typhoon Twister, opened at Six Flags in Eureka on Saturday (June 23), but was closed the same day after a rider fell out of it and was hurt, authorities reported.
At 6:22 p.m., Eureka Police got a call that Thomas Moore, 28, of St. Louis fell out of the ride – a four-person raft that travels down a water slide. Moore fell out of the raft as it went up a steep embankment, and then he slid down the rest of the ride outside of the raft, the report said.
Lifeguards attended to Moore when he made it to the bottom of the slide, and then the Eureka Fire Protection District transported him to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, said Scott Barthelmass, a Eureka Fire spokesman.
Moore was treated and released, hospital spokeswoman Molly Eime said.
Typhoon Twister features a 125-foot-long whirlpool, a 54-foot vertical drop and a 45-foot-high wave wall.
“The ride is closed while we conduct a thorough review,” Six Flags spokeswoman Elizabeth Gotway said.
