traffic accident 3

Southbound I-55 just south of Richardson Road in Arnold was closed for an hour or so this afternoon (Aug. 18), following a two-vehicle accident there, authorities reported.

At 11:30 a.m., Richard J. Hazard, 62, of Imperial was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado south on I-55 just south of Richardson, and while attempting to change lanes, the left rear side of the pickup struck the right front side of a southbound 2011 Chevrolet Impala, and after the collision, the pickup overturned several times, the report said.

Hazard was moderately hurt and taken by Rock Township Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County.

Rebecca A. Bogan, 41, of Lemay was driving the Impala. No injuries were reported for her.

Both Hazard and Bogan were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

The pickup was totaled, and the Impala sustained minor damage, the report said.

Arnold Police Detective Lt. James Jones said the highway patrol shut down the southbound lanes on I-55 to investigate the crash, and Arnold Police shut down the exit ramps.

He said the interstate reopened about 1 p.m.
