David Johnston, 24, of Hillsboro died Feb. 19 from injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Ems Road near Lonesome Pines in the Hillsboro area, says Cpl. Matthew Moore of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

A 28-year-old Cedar Hill woman who was driving the vehicle was arrested for suspicion of DWI following the accident, which happened at 1:30 a.m. Feb. 19, Moore said.

The woman was driving a 2013 Hyundai east on Ems Road, and the vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree, Moore said.

Johnston, who was a passenger in the front seat, was transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, where he was pronounced dead later that day, Moore said.

It’s unknown whether Johnston was wearing a seat belt, Moore said.

The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the accident and was treated at an area hospital, Moore said.

She was arrested, but as of today (Feb. 28), no charges had been filed, Moore said.
