woman in handcuffs

Drew Myers, 27, of Festus was struck by a pickup while he was riding a bicycle on May 22 in Festus, and an 18-year-old Herculaneum woman was arrested for allegedly hitting him and leaving the scene of the accident, said Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis, who was the first officer on the scene after the accident.

He said Myers was injured in the accident and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Lewis said he came upon the scene at about 8:30 p.m. after attending that night’s Festus City Council meeting.

“I was driving on Beffa Street approaching Maple Street when I saw a man standing over a man lying in the street. It was just before you get to Walgreens,” Lewis said. “The man standing over the man said (the victim) was just hit by a car. I called in for fire and ambulance.”

Myers had head and leg injuries and was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, Lewis said.

A hospital spokesman said Myers was treated and released.

Lewis said the investigation led to the arrest of the Herculaneum woman, who was driving a 2006 Ford pickup when she allegedly struck the man. She was booked and then released pending application for warrants.

“We think the girl who hit him panicked and left the scene,” Lewis said. “But, she should have stayed.”

Lewis said he did not know the extent of damage to the bike.
