The drive-thru at a Burger King in Eureka was out of commission for about four days last week after a car left in neutral rolled from a gas station parking lot into the side of the restaurant, Eureka Police reported.
No one was injured in the incident, and no one was arrested after the accident, Capt. David Wilson said.
At about noon April 23, Timothy Shipley of Gerald parked a 2007 Honda Civic in the parking lot of the Phillips 66 gas station, 301 W. Fifth St. He told police he left the car in neutral, and it rolled backward after he had exited the car, police reported.
The Civic rolled through the parking lot, across Orchard Lane and down a hill into the Burger King drive-thru, the report said. The restaurant is at 235 W. Fifth St.
John Steinman of Highland Village, Texas, was in a 2019 Kia Optima in the drive-thru lane when the Civic rolled toward the building. He attempted to drive forward before the car came over the hill, but the Optima was hit on its rear right side, according to a report.
After clipping the Optima, the Civic hit the wall under the drive-thru window. The impact caused structural damage, and the drive-thru was closed until the night of April 26, the report said.
Both cars were driven from the scene, Wilson said.
